Maisie, a 23 year old transgender college student, has spent the last few years working on herself. She's proud of her transition, but she's lonely, and desperate enough for a romantic connection to agree to let her roommate set her up on a blind date with a friend of his, after his repeated insistence that this friend is "too perfect" of a match for her. Things take a turn for the messy when Maisie's blind date turns out to be Amy, her former best friend (and long-term unrequited crush) from middle school through high school. The two of them parted on really bad terms, which would be enough to make this date a disaster all on its own, but as Amy introduces herself and begins enthusiastically flirting with her, Maisie realizes to her horror that Amy doesn't even *recognize* her. Can Maisie navigate this nightmare social situation? Can the two of them utilize this unexpected reunion to unpack messy emotions about a painful past? Maybe, just maybe, could Maisie and Amy find a way to salvage this mess into something resembling an actual date? Too Perfect is a story about unexpected reunions, youthful stupidity, the complicated trauma of growing up queer, all the little ways people can hurt each other unintentionally, eating ice cream while watching anime on the couch, and matched puzzle pieces finally being rotated the right way so they fit at last.
