Five children and one computer caregiver. Mara, Jasper, Rin, Cal, and Theo have lived their entire lives inside of Home, facility run by Guide. Guide has been the only caretaker they have ever known. Their Home sits nestled in a valley decorated with violet-silver grass and tress with spiral shaped leaves. A valley the children have only began to explore. They live comfortable lives. Learning and growing. Then the questions start. Why were the air filters changed so frequently, regardless of them being mostly clean? Why does Guide block off certain parts of Home? Why does she deflect certain questions? Why does Home start feeling less a home and more like something built deliberately around them? As the children piece together the truth gradually, including why they exist at all, they start to question if Guide, the one who raised them, can still be trusted. For the Ones We Lost is a science fiction mystery about found family, discovery ones own identity, and what it means to be made from someone else's love.
