About

There ’ s something that happens when you lose a parent while you ’ re still figuring out who you are. People talk about grief like it ’ s supposed to make you softer, more grateful, more awake to life — but that ’ s not what it felt like for me.  At twenty-five, it just felt like gravity doubled.  Like I was living inside a black hole where time still moved but nothing else did.   When I finally crawled out of it, the world was… off.  Too loud, too bright, too self-involved.  It was harder to care, to relate..  I was already bad at empathy, and now it just became worse ’ s   I kept thinking my dad would ’ ve known how to explain it — he would ’ ve called it hormonal realignment or post-traumatic chemical compensation.  He could always turn pain into science, wrap it in words like neurotransmitter or dopamine depletion , and somehow that made it manageable.   But he was gone too.
