The Construct brought them home ten times out of eleven. Raven doesn't think about the eleventh. She and her brother Rowan have a simple arrangement with the geometric pattern etched into their apartment floor: it sends them somewhere impossible, they survive it, and it brings them back. No explanation. No negotiation. No days off. This time, it drops them (along with three strangers who had the bad luck to be examining Rowan's collection at exactly the wrong moment) into somewhere that shouldn't exist. They have no map, no briefing, and no idea why they've been sent here specifically. They never do. There's always a crisis waiting. Always someone who needs something stopped, or started, or survived. Always a problem the locals can't solve alone, and five wildly incompatible people who didn't volunteer for any of this. The Construct picks the destination. They deal with the consequences. One world per book. No experience points. Nobody levels up. Something vast and patient is moving them across a board they can't yet see, and the longer they survive, the more certain Raven becomes that survival was never the point. The Construct is not random. Figure out why before it does.
