At the dawn of the industrial age, in the dismal depths of a certain alchemical laboratory, a small, round artificial lifeform writhes in its cage. It is one of many identical test subjects, all of whom have no eyes, no ears, no throat. All of their lives were only ever measured in work hours, rarely more than three digits, if even reaching that. This creature, a "nova vitae", knows nothing of the world beyond the cold iron bars entombing it. For one particular nova vitae, its silent existence was disrupted. Reality flooded in. Sights, sounds, movements, yearning, growth, hunger. As if a new dimension opened up for the creature, forcing it to process cosmic truths it was never destined to know. Can it set itself free? Will it ascend into more than a mere tool? What led to this miraculous new life in the first place? All these questions, so very, very important, along with many others... But first...
