About
Eva is the crown princess of a world where magic and demons are anything but fairy tales. One day, she gains a secret friend who becomes necessary to her far too quickly. But some secrets cannot simply be locked behind a door. Their bond grows so strong that it changes Eva herself—and drives those who fear for the princess to see it as a carefully laid trap. Can it truly be friendship—or is Eva being used so subtly that even tenderness becomes part of someone else’s design? Author’s Note The full story will be about 140 chapters and 220k words. Daily chapter updates. The story begins as a courtly adventure—with a mystery, courtly masks, social games, and bitingly comic dialogue. For roughly the first half of the story, the tone remains mostly light, and this is intentional: at first, what matters is laughter, affection, the strange joy of disrupting the established order, and the feeling that something truly alive has suddenly entered a world of rules and ceremonies. But in the second half, the masks fall, the reasons behind certain actions and their consequences become clearer, and the story darkens and sinks into deeper waters. Questions about the price of power, freedom, friendship, roles imposed by society, and other people’s lives—which are far too easy to spend in the name of grand goals—come to the forefront. The story was originally conceived as something much darker, but the bond between the characters proved too strong to let the story become darkness alone. So the comic elements do not cancel out the story’s gradual darkening. They only sharpen the contrast between how the world looked on its surface and what has been hidden in its depths.
